Prom styles get star treatment

TORONTO — With prom season in full swing and Grade 8 college coming, tween and teen girls will be getting the Cinderella treatment as they trade their everyday casual clothes for more gorgeous getups. For students still on the look for dresses, notable ensembles previously worn by pop feelings Taylor Fast, Ariana Grande and Selena Gomez may help invigorate the search for their ideal formal fashions. Lucia Connor, marketing director at Yorkdale Shopping Hub in Toronto, shares tips for converting the stars’ styles into age-appropriate looks.

 TAYLOR FAST Before Fast set out on her world tour for her hit album 1989, she had been making the times on the awards-show enterprise in a wide range of colorful styles. Connor said Fast is synonymous with lace, which she's worn previously on the red carpet. The Shake It Off hitmaker typically gravitates towards floor-skimming projects. But as of this year’s Grammys, the star prefered a dress hybrid. She used an Elie Saab design featuring a floor-length drape skirt with a shorter hemline in front. Connor suggested teens could funnel Swift’s Grammy gown by selecting a dress with a high-low hemline. She sharp to a pretty, pleated strapless creation in pale pink which could also are very effective for younger girls. “What we love about this as well is beautiful ruching details in the front, ” said Connor, a mention of the the technique used to gather material in a repeating pattern to manufacture a ruffled or pleated effect. “It’s a love neckline, which is really age-appropriate for a Grade 8 grad. ” Connor suggested keeping accessories relatively spare to avoid detracting from a dress with a more decorative neckline. In that instance, she recommended selecting small statement jewelry instead of a necklace. ARIANA GRANDE Connor said girls may want to look to Grande’s princess-inspired stage styles for formal wear inspiration. The ponytailed pop star has previously been discovered performing and posing in strapless dresses swathed in sequins and drops. Connor suggested selecting Black Tulle Sweetheart Brush Train Ball Gown Prom Dress with bodices adorned with gems or drops. Older girls following Grande’s red carpet style development may look to simulate her recent Grammys ensemble. 

The star arrived out in a one-shouldered, floor-length, silver-accented Versace cheap ball gown prom dresses. Clothing was white — a hot hued for spring proms, said Connor. For a fresh take on Grande’s Grammy style, she suggested a long white dress accented with a contrast-coloured waistband and connectors in black. Connor recommended rounding out the ensemble with a twinkling ear cuff and statement rings to add a hint of edge. SELENA GOMEZ “Her red carpet look is synonymous … with a long love top, chiffon-style dress down to the bottom, ” said Connor. She suggested accessorizing the outfit with a ribbon and bow headpiece. “It’s really age-appropriate and times out the style as well. ” In opting for more heavily adorned dresses, Connor recommended keeping all of those other add-ons simple and delicate, such as stud jewelry and a bow-adorned clutch. For a more daring prom look, Connor suggested a method inspired by Gomez’s performance outfits; the star has been known to wear dresses with cutout details and crashing necklines.
